Kuching, November 8, 2023 – Peladang Sagrow Sdn Bhd, is a joint venture company between Pertubuhan Peladang Negeri Sarawak (PPNS) and Sara Grow Sdn Bhd on the cultivation of shallots and other high value vegetables. PPNS was represented by The Honourable Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Ismail, Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak (Food Industry) and PPNS Chairman while Sara Grow was represented by Mr. Jerry Toh, Director of Business Development and Mr. Kho Lian Shen, Chief Executive Officer. The occasion was witnessed by Deputy Permanent Secretary of M-FICORD, Mr. Sayed Ismail Nasiruddin bin Dato’ Sri Wan Hashim.
The joint venture agreement provides a good opportunity to venture and produce shallots and high value vegetables at the Sartech site, located at Tarat, Serian with the pilot plot of 10 hectares. With an estimated import of RM100 million worth of shallots alone in Sarawak in the year of 2022, the venture has been seen as a golden opportunity to contribute to the reduction of imports in line with our Sarawak Government’s initiatives.
The adoption of smart farming technology using green house and IOT systems assist automations in farming and improve from traditional farming methods as well as to reduce intensive laborers needed on field. The produce will be in line to cater the local market and other states of Malaysia and other countries of the region from Sarawak.
